Artist Talk with Lida Suchy

Join us for an evening with artist Lida Suchy. Her photography exhibition Portrait of A Village, Ukraine is on exhibition at ArtRage through March 11, 2023.

Lida Suchy is a first-generation American born into a refugee family. She often draws on this background as inspiration for her creative work. For more than 25 years, she has chronicled communities largely through portraiture. Lida received her MFA from the Yale University School of Art. She has taught master workshops in the USA, Italy and Ukraine.

In support of her creative work, Lida was named Guggenheim Fellow, NYFA Fellow and Fulbright Scholar; she was awarded a Light Work Artist-in-Residency & Light Work Grants, an ArtsLink Grant and an International Research & Exchanges Board Fellowship.

Selected solo or two-person exhibitions include: The Photographer’s Gallery London, Spisske Museum Levoca Czechoslovakia, The Washington Project for the Arts Washington DC, Month of Photography Bratislava Slovakia, Castellani Art Museum Lewiston NY, Light Work Syracuse NY, and ArtRage Gallery Syracuse NY.

Selected visiting artist presentations include Harvard University Cambridge MA, Newhouse School Syracuse University, The University of Toledo Center for the Visual Arts Toledo OH, and Yale University School of Art New Haven CT.

Lida’s photographs are in public collections at the Brooklyn Museum, the Eastman Museum Rochester NY, Bibliothèque Nationale Paris, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and Ivan Franko Museum in Kryvorivnya Ukraine.

In 2009 Lida Suchy exhibited VOICES OF DIVERSITY: A Photographic Portrait of the Syracuse Community Choir at ArtRage. ArtRage Board Member, Nancy Keefe Rhodes wrote this profile for the Stone Canoe Literary Journal.
