The Mighty Pen: Readings by CNY Veteran Writers

Join us for a special evening of personal readings from veterans.   We will be joined by Doug Van D’Elia, Ralph Willsey and Ginger Peterman from the Syracuse Veterans’ Writing Group and several members of Ithaca’s Veterans’ Sanctuary Warrior Writers group, including exhibiting Combat Paper Redux Artist, Nathan Lewis. Special guest reading by exhibiting Combat Paper Redux Artist, Jon Turner, from Vermont.

About the Writing Groups

The Syracuse Veterans’ Writing group meets monthly on Saturdays from 10 a.m.-12 noon at Syracuse University and is co-led by Eileen E. Schell, Chair of the Syracuse University Writing Program, a writing teacher and writing group leader for over 20 years and Ivy Kleinbart, a poet and writing teacher at Syracuse University The group is open to all veterans and their supporters.  The focus of the group is on writing nonfiction accounts or “true stories” of life in and out of the military. The Veterans’ Sanctuary Warrior Writers meets at the Tompkins County Worker’s Center every 2nd and 4th Wednesday from 6:30-8pm  All Veterans all welcome. Warrior Writers creates a culture that articulates veterans’ experiences, provides a peer-supported, safe, and creative community for artistic expression, and bears witness to the lived experiences and truths of warriors.
