In their usual mistaken identity plot American hoofer Fred pursues Ginger through the halls of London society. Yet TOP HAT “does not glorify wealth of upper class — if anything it pokes fun at it,” (Cinematic Reflections).

Super footwork and snazzy Art Deco sets and costumes are enhanced by sparkling b&w camerawork and 11 lilting Irving Berlin tunes from the sophisticated “Top Hat, White Tie and Tails” to ecstatic “Cheek to Cheek”.
