Dear ArtRage Friend and Supporter,

Greetings from our homes to yours!

We at ArtRage hope this letter finds you weathering this crisis with as positive an attitude as is humanly possible.

We all are living what we never expected to be our new normal. And while we’re hunkering down and sheltering in place, it’s likely we are passing the time reading books, reading/writing poetry, enjoying virtual theatre productions, watching movies on Netflix, taking virtual tours of museums or watching concerts performed by artists from their homes. In other words, the Arts are allowing us to maintain some sanity in the midst of a world turned upside down.

The importance of the Arts is often sorely underestimated. We hope that if anything positive can come of this crisis, it will be that we are seeing, in real time, how the Arts can sustain us, enrich us and elevate us when we need it most.

Which brings us to ArtRage. Our doors have been closed since March 15th and we have had to cancel four fundraising events that we depended on to help us thrive as an organization. It may be a long time before we can safely hold such events again. In addition, we recently learned that two already approved grants for upcoming exhibits will be cut in half due to county budgetary constraints.

And we know this is only the beginning. We cannot predict the future, but it’s unlikely that we can depend on the availability of such grants as we have in the past with our state and county in such financial distress.

So we need you, our supporters, now more than ever.

And yet – what an unfortunate moment to ask for donations. We acknowledge that these are unprecedented times economically and emotionally. However, we also know that when this economy stabilizes, we would all feel a terrible loss to our community were ArtRage to become a casualty of this virus.

If you are able, we are asking you to give something, no matter how small, to help ArtRage reopen when that becomes possible. And we are appealing to those of you fortunate enough to remain financially stable during this crisis to consider the following:

If the funds you receive from the stimulus plan are not already earmarked to pay bills, please consider donating a portion to help support ArtRage Gallery. Another thing to consider is that, as a part of the stimulus plan, you will be able to claim up to $300 in contributions to charity as an “above the line” deduction without itemizing on your 2020 tax return.

We know that you cherish the role that ArtRage has come to play in our Social Justice community; through the art that we show, the artists we give voice to, and the large number of community events that are held in the gallery.

Normally, this is the time of year when we conduct our annual appeal; when we announce our newly planned exhibition season and ask you to support specific exhibits. We are unable to do that right now but we are determined to continue this important work and we need your help. We cannot allow this pandemic to halt our mission.

As we state on our website, ArtRage is no ordinary gallery. We believe that everyone has the right to art and that art is essential to building an open, just world.

We have enclosed a contribution form you can mail in, or you can visit the “donate” page at artragegallery.org to contribute.

Thank you in advance for your generosity.
