As a featured event in the ArtRage Gallery’s upcoming fiber exhibition, Spoken Threads: Craftivist Fiber Art, artist Mary Giehl, an installation artist, asked knitters and crocheters to make something warm; a hat, scarf or mittens calling it The Connecting with Something Warm Project. She has now collected over 800 handmade items to leave in public places waiting to be found.

Mary, who started this project a year ago by attending the many knitting groups in town, will be placing them around the city in parks, walkways and benches. Each bag contains a colorful postcard along with the knitted or crocheted item. Printed on the postcard is an explanation of the “gift,” information about the project and an invitation to meet the knitter or crocheter at the opening reception for the exhibition on November 9, 2013.

Recipients also are asked to mail the stamped postcard back to the ArtRage Gallery as a record of the connection. At the reception, the gallery will display the postcards, and organizers plan to photograph recipients with their newfound hats, scarves or mittens and, hopefully, with the creators.
