Commemorating the Nakba

May 15, 2022 - 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Organized by Justice for Palestine, a committee of the Syracuse Peace Council.

On May 15th, we remember the Nakba- a national day of mourning for Palestinians that commemorates the day the occupation of Palestinian land began. There are many translations of Nakba in English: the catastrophe, disaster, great suffering, etc. To commemorate the Nakba means to acknowledge the legacy of Israeli occupation, which has resulted in the loss of Palestinian sovereignty and culture.

Join the members of Justice for Palestine as participants of a community dialogue and viewing of a presentation by Gideon Levy for the National Press Club. Gideon Levy is an Israeli journalist for Haaretz who has been celebrated as well as attacked for reporting on the realities of the Palestinian occupation, and advocating for Israel’s recognition of its colonial history. Because of the complicity of Israeli media in choosing not to challenge the narrative that Palestinians are an enemy of the Israeli state, Gideon Levy aims to cast a light where others have not, through his journalism.
