A Special Day
Set in May 1938 this film takes place on the day Hitler arrives in Italy to meet Mussolini for the first time, and all Rome seems to be present. Yet in a massive apartment complex, two who are alone strike up an unlikely friendship. She, a tired housewife, left behind when her Fascist husband runs off to attend the event. He, a distraught a man facing personal, legal, and professional ruin because he is gay. As day passes into night, their chance meeting evolves into a special relationship that will forever change their views on life, love, and politics. No ordinary romantic drama, but a meaningful, beautifully performed look at what it is like to be an outsider.
