Dear Friends of ArtRage Gallery,

I am a member of the artist community in Central New York; participating in the lively world of art festivals, opening receptions and gallery work. When I decided it was time for my involvement to include volunteering, I immediately thought of ArtRage. ArtRage fit with my ideology of what art could be…. not only for me, but for my community. Since then I have been involved with the annual ArtRageous Extravaganza fundraiser, volunteered at opening receptions, exhibited in several group exhibitions, and served on the advisory committee. Now I get the honor to ask you for your support.

My most memorable experience was interning for ArtRage back in 2017, while earning an art degree at SUNY Oswego. ArtRage photographed 26 local elder women activists; all are 80 years or older for their “Still The One” exhibition. I was honored with interviewing all 26 women. These interviews revealed the wisdom of these elders in troubled and urgent moments. I felt as if I was going back to the source or back to the well; seeking to recognize those who persisted and endured and made a difference. Sitting with these icons and hearing their stories gave me a sense of the importance of activism. Of the necessity of speaking up and raising awareness.

This is the work of ArtRage. It is unique in its mission to bring solidarity, hope, heritage, cultural expression, social change, awareness, inclusivity and community to us all. Supporting ArtRage is a commitment. Showing up, volunteering, giving time and financial contributions are fundamental to keeping this mission active and alive.

This September begins the 19th Exhibition Season. Another year full of visual expressions of social engagement, issues of the day, and outrage at the state of affairs. As always, the upcoming season gives voice to artists that strive for change, seeking to make our community, and our world a safer, more inclusive and peaceful place.

Syracuse is privileged to have ArtRage in our community. We can be proud that it is thriving, but it will only continue to do so with our support. Please consider a donation.
