What in the world can you expect to hear?

Flose
Started in 2017, Flose is the main performance alias of improviser and composer Charles Chatman. Using noise as a bedrock/possibility space, Flose works to extract the complex sonic and affective capacity of nonstandard musical devices and techniques (toy keyboards, prepared lap harp, electric toothbrushes, etc). Flose pieces act as collision points for the sound worlds of noise and non-idiomatic improvisation, postwar concert music, drone, avant-folk, ambient, and extreme metal, highlighting points of resonance and contrast with each other and Chatman’s demure setup. From their intersection and breakdown, an electroacoustic gothic aesthetic emerges, foregrounded in textural curiosity, immersive melancholy, and surprise. Listen Here

Matt Weston & Paige Driass 
Two experimental musicians from the Capital Region who have been playing together for years will make their live debut in Syracuse and present two compositions they have been working on. Individually both artists have unique perspectives on the use of non-musical objects in composition. Sure Matt Weston is a “drummer” but his work hardly sounds like what a normal person would define as drumming. Often Matt’s work can be ambient or drony through the use of unconventional techniques. Paige’s work is even more bewildering. A composition may be recorded as played with “found objects” but the listening experience is more akin to having your head scrambled by fragile ASMR-like sounds punctuated by discordant sounds that sound like a rusty junk yard free jazz jam. Two NYS musicians I look up to as an endless source of inspiration.  Listen Here

Yours truly. Computer Music. Modular Synth. Weird Sound Collector. I take inspiration from the music of contemporary composers like Iannis Xenakis, Bernard Parmigiani or Florian Hecker. I perform under various monikers but at the end of the day I am just endlessly fascinated by sound in a textural way and always searching for something I haven’t heard; or better yet no one has heard. Oh, PS my birthday is the night before on the 1st so this is my celebration and it’s only fitting that I celebrate with my favorite thing in the world, experimental music. Listen Here
