LIVE music with Colleen Kattau & friends from Dos XX & Some Guys
and – back by popular demand Kambuyu Marimba Ensemble!
KAMBUYU MARIMBA ENSEMBLE
Kambuyu Marimba ensemble plays music rooted in the traditions of the Shona people of Zimbabwe. They are a group of business folk, teachers, nurses, etc, who are absolutely addicted to playing this music! The rhythms are layered and the melodies energetic. Foremost to them is enjoying the music and respecting the teachers who have passed these tunes on through oral tradition. Sharing the music with others makes them all feel very happy!
COLLEEN KATTAU and friends from Dos XX and Some Guys
Colleen Kattau and Some Guys’ Latin-influenced and original socio-environmentalist music is “power and beauty steeping in a fine tea.” The band is virtuoso bassist Mike Brandt, sax sensation, Jamie Yaman (also on native flute and vocals), Colleen on voice and guitar. Their new CD, In My Name is getting lots of airplay and sweet reviews. She’ll also be joined by her band mates from Dos XX, blues woman, Jane Zell and African percussionista, Connie Walters. Last year Colleen was invited to tour with legendary singer Holly Near and was a selected showcase artist at the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance. She has sung with Pete Seeger at gates of Ft. Benning, GA, and is a long time arts activista! Get your dancing shoes on!
