Presented by Teens with a Movie Camera and the Data Warriors.

Storytelling for change will provide our teenage participants the chance to meet and converse with Syracuse’s Data Warriors as they share their latest statistical investigations into locally relevant topics. Alongside the Data Warriors presentation, Teens with a Moving Camera will offer a hands-on animation station where participants can try out creative visual techniques, such as stop-motion animation and shadow puppetry.

The desired outcome for teenage workshop participants is to leave this workshop with new storytelling tools, new connections, and the inspiration to create a mini-movie of their own. 

The Data Warriors program equips Syracuse youth with tools to explore issues in their neighborhoods using the power of math, maps, and storytelling. Current projects include research on lead poisoning and landlord responsibility, school lunch equity, access and youth sports, population density and crime, food deserts, pollution mapping, and more.
