June 10, 2019 - 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

2016 Youth Award Honorees

Community members are invited to come and hear what young activists are doing in our community, enjoy refreshments, and celebrate together.

Martine Dosa is being recognized for her work for peace and gender equality through Seeds of Peace and Nottingham Girl Up.

Maria Phillips, a senior at the Public Service Leadership Academy, is being honored for rising out of poverty to fight against violence through Mentors for Violence Prevention and other work.

The Nuclear-Free World Committee of the Syracuse Peace Council, formerly Peace Action of CNY, has presented awards to local peace activists for many years. We began recognizing young peace activists 16 years ago. We award high school students in Onondaga County who have shown a devotion to peace, justice, and protecting the environment and who have engaged in activities that demonstrate their passion to work on the underlying causes of war, violence, and injustice. We hope this recognition helps young people to intensify their commitment to peace and justice in our communities, in our country, and in our world.
