The Social and Ecological Imperatives of War Abolition
September 17, 2018 - 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
The Beyond War and Militarism Committee presents Greta Zarro, the Organizing Director for World BEYOND War and an organic farmer in Otsego County.
Greta has a background in issue-based community organizing. Her experience includes volunteer recruitment and engagement, event organizing, coalition building, legislative and media outreach, and public speaking. Before working for World BEYOND War, she held a full-time community organizing job with leading non-profit Food & Water Watch. There, she worked on issues related to fracking, genetically engineered foods, climate change, and the corporate control of our common resources. Greta describes herself as a vegetarian sociologist-environmentalist. She is interested in the interconnections of social-ecological systems and sees the profligacy of the military-industrial complex, as part of the larger corporatocracy, as the root of many cultural and environmental ills.
World BEYOND War, founded by well-known author and activist David Swanson, is a decentralized, global grassroots network of volunteers, activists, and allied organizations advocating for the abolition of the institution of war and its replacement with a culture of peace.
Beyond War and Militarism is a joint Committee of the Syracuse Peace Council and the CNY Solidarity Coalition.
This event is free and open to the public.
