Syracuse Cultural Workers InsideOUT…the 25th anniversary show

A behind the scenes look at art & activism
NOVEMBER 12 thru DECEMBER 20, 2008
OPENING RECEPTION, Saturday, November 15, 2008 7-9pm

Our 2nd exhibit highlighted one of Syracuse’s Best Kept Secrets…Syracuse Cultural Workers (SCW). This 25 year old community resource presents a familiar face (or, rather, several familiar faces) to the progressive community in Syracuse. The calendars, posters, cards and T-shirts they publish are well-known; and the banners, drums, and willing bodies are a ready resource for just about any event designed to educate/agitate.

With this exhibit, titled SCW Inside-OUT, they celebrated their 25th anniversary with a behind-the-scenes look at some of the less obvious aspects of what it means to be an international “peace and justice publisher and distributor.” Topics include: the poster process, from brainstorm to finished product; customer feedback when they don’t get it right (and when they do); a poster/calendar/art collages featuring activist art spanning 30 years, and more. This exhibit was a show filled with surprising, entertaining, and visually stimulating perspectives!

Special event: Third Thursday (Th3) November 20th, 5-8pm

As a member of the Third Thursday group, ArtRage hosted a celebration of Syracuse Cultural Worker’s 2009 Women Artist’s Datebook as our Th3 event on November 20, 2008. The gallery and exhibit, InsideOUT, was open from 5-8pm with music, datebook poetry and food offered from 6-7pm.
