THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED! Poetry Reading with Moore, Wiener and Shepperd

June 7, 2019 - 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

DUE TO A SUDDEN ILLNESS, THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED. NINE MILE PRESS WILL RESCHEDULE WHEN CONDITIONS CHANGE. THANKS FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING.

Nine Mile Books & Magazine is hosting a great poetry reading with three poets — Jackie Warren-Moore, Diane Wiener and Walt Shepperd.  If you’ve ever heard them read you know you’re in for a treat!  The event is free, with pizza and refreshments.  We will sell their books at a discount.

Jackie Warren-Moore

Jackie Warren-Moore is a poet, playwright, theatrical director, teacher, and freelance writer, whose work has been published nationally and internationally.  She is, as she has said, a Survivor, who has survived racism, sexism, sexual abuse, and physical abuse.  She regards her poetic voice as the roadmap of her survival, a way of healing herself and of speaking to the souls of others.  She has said, “I believe I have an obligation to speak up and celebrate what is right in the world and to shout out about what is wrong in the world, in the hopes that we may all work together to make it right for us all.”   Ms. Warren-Moore makes her home in Syracuse, NY.

Diane R. Wiener

Diane R. Wiener’s first full-length poetry collection, The Golem Verses, was published in June, 2018, by Nine Mile Press in LaFayette, N.Y.  Her poems appear in Nine Mile, Wordgathering, Tammy, and elsewhere; she has flash fiction in Ordinary Madness (Weasel Press).  Between May, 2016 and January, 2018, Diane blogged for the Huffington Post.  A Research Professor at Syracuse University, she has published works on disability justice, pedagogy, and empowerment.

Walt Shepperd

Walt Shepperd has read poetry at colleges and cultural centers throughout Central New York as well as New York City’s Lincoln Center, City Center, Nuyorican Cafe, and the Poetential Unlimited Theater of Harlem. With Stewart Brisby, on a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, he edited and published Born into a Felony, the first national anthology of contemporary American prison writing.  He was Executive Producer for the Media Unit and Senior Editor at UrbanCNY. He is a three-time winner of the New York Press Association Writer of the Year Award and a recipient of the Syracuse Press Club Lifetime Achievement Award.“Youth,” and three New York State Golden Mics.  Author of Conjuring a Counter-Culture, Essays on the Sixties, and I Dreamt I took a Two Week Vacation in an Audrey Hepburn Movie, a chapbook of poems, he is Associate Editor on Chris Powell’s Home Town News, founding editor and publisher of Nickel Review, founding editor of the Syracuse Gazette, and Senior Editor for 35 years at the Syracuse New Times.
