Afghan Peace Volunteers

Need inspiration during this time of endless electoral politic sound bites? Come meet, by slide presentation, the Afghan Peace Volunteers. A group of courageous souls working for peace through nonviolent means in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Ron VanNorstrand, a member of the local chapter of Veterans for Peace, will present a slide presentation of his “Christmas in Kabul” visit with the Afghan Peace Volunteers (APV). Ron
was invited to join a small delegation arranged by Voices for Creative Nonviolence for a ten-day person to person visit with the APV.

During the short stay the APV enthusiastically shared their personal stories and the slides present the various ways these brave souls seek to bridge tribal and ethnic barriers in pursuit of peace and social justice. You will hear about their School for Street Kids, Winter Duvet Project and Afghan Cycling Club; an effort to encourage and support girls in cycling and to promote gender equality in general among the youth of Afghanistan.
