Honoring our Elders – Oral History Workshop

November 12, 2017 - 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM

Inspired by ArtRage’s experience in getting to know the remarkable women that make up the Still the One exhibition, we are asking the community to continue the process of learning about the history of our community and those who make it stronger. We are calling for you to sit down with an elder in your life; a friend, a family member, a neighbor, someone in your faith community or someone with a shared interest, and create an oral history recording.

To help you build up your confidence we invite you to attend a workshop that will share some examples of local oral history projects, explain why this type of story telling is so important and give you some tips on how to ask the best questions.

Cazenovia College Anthropology Professor Jesse Harasta, will share interview techniques, best practices for creating oral histories and tell you about the StoryCorps app that lets you record and upload interviews to https://storycorps.me/

ArtRage Gallery intern, Sharon Bottle Souva will share her experiences interviewing the 26 women for the ‘Still the One’ exhibition.

Light Refreshments will be served.
