ALL THE KINGS MEN (1949)
Directed by Robert Rossen with Broderick Crawford, John Ireland and Mercedes McCambridge

Based on the Pulitzer-prize winning novel by Robert Penn Warren, All the Kings Men takes a blistering look at the rise of politician Willie Stark, from idealistic farmer to shady governor even as it shows the corrosive effect of a poisonous political process upon the human soul.  Unflinching direction, a  powerhouse performance by Broderick Crawford in the lead role, and  striking black-and-white camerawork expose the seemingly timeless link between politics, greed and corruption.

This is a movie that has not only stood the test of time but is shockingly relevant today.  Hailed by critics and public alike, it won Oscars for Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actress. Robert Rossen was nominated for Best Director. “Strong stuff,  great photography’ — Associated Press
